Not a sweet after-dinner course, not an arid place, not leaving someone – desert, as in just deserts, as in, what you deserve.
In speaking with a friend of mine, I was reminded that desert means only so much. Of course practically no one deserves illness, injury or tragedy. And, for the most part, we deserve exactly what we have because regardless of what we think we deserve, we have what we have because of what we’ve chosen in the past, and no one can change that except for us.
For example, if you’ve got an awful job and your boss mistreats you, of course you don’t deserve that – you’re a good person, a hard worker, etc. And, consider this: what have you done to change your situation? Have you taken consistent strong action to either improve your working conditions or change jobs? If not, then you’ve allowed this situation to continue, and it’s no one’s fault but your own that you are where you are.
This sounds harsh. The truth is, this is a gift. You have the power over your life. Take responsibility for your surroundings, take control, and create the life that you’ve always wanted to live. You have the power!
You’re a superstar.
